How, you ask, can one improve on the limited edition, one of a kind size 15 post-punk ROTM Frank N Steins? Well, I found the original buckles too small for the tabs and they were chewing up the leather.
Add to that the fact that I wear almost entirely nickel hardware on my belts and I set about to personalize my stompers. This took me, naturally, to the master of all things shoe-repair related: Nick Valente at V.I.P. shoe repair (140 East 55th Street, NYC - between Lex and Third).
Nick and his team are wizards with footwear - I literally have has them remake shoes for me that didn’t fit quite right. As usual, Nick knew just what to do. Hard to find, but he came up with buckles from connections at a very well known top-end English shoemaker. Not only did they fit perfectly, but he surprised me with nickel buckles that have a hint of rose around the edges. They match the pebbled leather perfectly. The only thing that could improve ROTM (besides Lazarus) is Nick Valente. Thanks, Nick.
